Can I use an old power supply and get adapters for it?

So I'm going to build my first PC in a while and I have one of those old silver metal power supplies. The kind that has the 20-pin power for the motherboard the one 4 pin CPU power and more Molex connectors than you have ever need.

I was thinking that I could buy adapters and use this power supply like the modern ones today. Like I could buy a 20-pin to a 24-pin adapter. Also buy Molex to Sata adapters for my DvD drive and hard drive. And maybe a Molex to 4+4 pin for the CPU

Is that even possible? Could I buy adapters to fit my needs and not have to worry abut there not being enough power?

Or am I better of just buying a new PSU
