Hi i have an ibm x3650 7979, currently with 6x2TB drives in a raid 5.
The 8k raid card has a limitation of only 2tb drive.
The back plane for the hdd's acts as a sas expander from what i have been told.

I ended up buying a LSI MR SAS 8204ELP, have connected it to my x3650, the raid card can get detected, but no drives are being detected, so it wont let me go in to the raid config util.

any ideas?

The cable that came with the card is identical to the one that is in the server, so i tried the one that came with the card still same problem then i tried the one that was used on the onbaord card same problem, any ideas why the card would not detect any of the drives?
The card connects to the standard 6 drive back plane.

Quick update

Some success, i have loaded winodws and then the megaraid software.

I can confirm the backplane on the x3650 7979 is a 6 drive sas expander.
the megaraid has detected all my drives. i can create an array.

1 issue for some reason when system boots it does not see the drives says no drives found and wont bring up the megaraid post boot options.

any ideas?
