So i have been working on building a system for a little over a month. this is my first system and i have ran into so much trouble i feel like giving up and im not sure what to do after shelling out over 1k and nothing happening.

So my new system is a :
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
corsair vengance cmz16gx3m4x1866c9r
AMD FX 8350
corsair 850 watt psu
AMD radeon hd 7970

i didn't want to lose my old files so i did some research and seen that you can use old hard drives so i decided to use my old one out of my prebuilt gaming pc i bought back in 2010. i also am using my old cd drive.

after doing more extensive research, i see multiple posts on people being able to and people not being able to.

well firstly i had some RAM that wasnt on the vendor list for the mobo after my first round. Red CPU light and beep of hardware failure. i contacted ASUS and ask them and they told me i needed different ram. So i ordered my corsairs.

i installed those today and still the red cpu light remains red. The first time i put it in, it was okay except for the red light but this time i had to spend about 2 hours straightening 3 pins that were bent.

my computer will not boot, and i have no idea whats wrong and really dont have the money at the moment for any more parts except a cpu because i luckily bought a warranty on it.

Do you guys just think my cpu was DOA?

i am new at this so any suggestions would be helpful

one at a time. understand AMD cpus have a finicky northbridge... generally they like 2 sticks of ram over any other configuration, but since we don't know if you have a bad stick of ram or not, lets try them out one at a time, then one stick in different motherboard ram slots. if that doesn't work try another stick of ram in different motherboard slots.

we need to nail down what's going on.

as for the clr_cmos jumper, on the sabertooth is near the com1 port.

so you bent the pins on the cpu? are you sure they're straight and going into the socket? you didn't snap any off did you?

ugh, this sounds like you damaged the cpu.

when i straightened the pins, it fell right in as it did when i put it in the first time right out of the box. i took it out again today and every pin is there and none are broke off

ok. do a hard reset on the bios. pull the battery out of the board, and pull the plug to the psu. i think the sabertooth has a jumper for the clr_cmos option, use that jumper too.

wait a few minutes. leave just one stick of ram in the motherboard. reset the jumper, put the battery back and plug the psu in, turn it on. if that doesn't work, pull the stick of ram out and try the other. if that doesn't work, move that stick of ram from one slot to the other. if it suddenly works, the problem is either the ram stick not in the board, or one of the ram slots you're not using.

well as im looking for the jumper in the manual i wanna take the time to ask should i swap up my RAM since i have 4 sticks if 4GBs in? like i mean swap them around? or should i try one at a time?

Dude, how did you get it fixed? cause i have pretty much the SAME parts as you, 8350, 7970 but 2x4gb Performance Ram sticks i have. and i just got the Mobo and im getting REALLY frustrated!

EDIT: Never mind! i fixed it, what i did was take out everything and left the CPU in (without a fan) and it went smart again instead of full retard, so now it's working and some how my HDD got currupted in the process, but oh well. i have a W7 cd and a key anyways ;)

ASUS tech support doesn't even help you, they just keep pushing you for an RMA. BUT THE REAL PROBLEM FOR ALL IS the 3 pin connector for the cpu . That's the culprit, You need to NEVER connect to the cpu power 3 pin male connector to the mobo . You have to use the 3 pin female connector from the CPU on the 4 pin male connector just to the right of it on the MOBO called the cpu fan optional, it is a 4 pin male, but you use the 3 pin female cpu connector there and the embedded slot that places it right direction IS USED leaving 1 pin unused> so spread the word...the 3 pin male connector on the sabertooth FX990 is useless.
