I just bought a 6 pin and 8 pin vga sleeved extension cords and I'm getting the message: Please plug in your pci-e power cables. My cards specifications say that I need a 6 pin and an 8 pin.

I also tested it by just plugging in my psu pci-e cables directly and it will only power on if i connect both 6+2 cables in.

Have I made a noob mistake?

Solution
There are 2 versions of the GTX 780 Windforce rev 1.0(http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4684#ov) and rev 2.0(http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4688#ov). rev 1.0 uses 1-8 pin and 1 6-pin and the rev 2.0 uses 2 8-pins.You were looking at the 1.0's info and you have a 2.0 card.
"I just bought a 6 pin and 8 pin vga sleeved extension cords". You have to be careful when doing that as each brand psu has their own pin combinations. You have to use the ones that came with the psu as it has its own special mapping. They are NOT standard.

Corsair 550W. And yes . . .I realize that. It's just not working with a 6 pin/8 pin setup.

So do you have 2 8-pin connections on the card, and it's not powering up when you connect a 6 pin and an 8 pin connector? Sounds like you've already solved your problem, connect it using an 8pin or 6+2pin to populate all 8 connections per plug.

Yeap, the card x2 8 power slots. Which originally I was going to buy two sleeved 8 pins . . but the info I read said only a 6 pin + 8 pin.

But yeah, problem solved - buying another one.

Those normally come on the PSU! Why are you buying them?

Thank you.

Because I want black sleeved cables. My case has a window.

Most quality PSU's already have sleeved cables, which PSU do you have?
