Hi everyone!
My PC is (was) equppied with a set of 2x 2GB A-Data DDR2 1066+ RAM (Vitesta Extreme Edition).
Recently I bought an identical set to increase the amount of RAM to 8 GB.

Unfortunately I can't get them all work together. If I insert two of them at once computer is just beeping and keeps restaring. I have to insert 1 on them first, boot. It's fine. Then re-boot, insert the 2nd one and it's fine.

But Windows 7 works very unstable. I keep getting blue screens, software crashes reporting memory related errors.

If I use only the newer ones, everything is fine. Same with my old ones. They just refuse to work all together.

Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L/S3L
CPU: Q9400

Maybe I should set timmings or voltage manualy? Any ideas anyone?

Thank you,
Jack

manually set everything according to the specs from manufacturer. Start at 2.1...

yes, without a doubt. Set the timings manually, and also the voltage. Should be about 2.1 volts for those dims, but check the manufacturers manual/website. Regarding not getting the four dims to work together, you have to appreciate that it's an extra load on the mobo. You may have to increase your NB voltage to account for the extra dims. But just increase it one ncrement at a time, until they work. You just need to do a little work, and you should be good to go.

this is the screen you want, and you can see NB second from bottom. That's the one to play with. But as I said, start on it's lowest setting, try boot, and continue to raise until you can.

the guy in the thread where that photo comes from has the NB set at 1.3v to keep stable, and VTT FSB voltage was set to 1.28. YOu will most likely have to pay around, but at least you have something to go on now.

Cheers :)

Great, thank you :)
Will check it in the evening.
Should I change RAM to manual control and set it to 2.1V? Or leave it on auto?
Same with timings? Manual or auto?

manually set everything according to the specs from manufacturer. Start at 2.1 for mem, but with four dims, you might have to increase that to 2.2, but don't go beyond spec of 2.3. Same with timings. if the dims are rated for 5-5-5-15 then set it to that. the key thing is the NB as the mobo will require more voltage for the 4 dims.

Aye, I found yesterday, that MCH is the NB. Had to go to 1.4V to make Windows 7 stable. RAM runs on 2.3 V.
Or maybe I went too high?

Most of my software is running fine now, blue screens are gone, but some programs still seems to be unstable.
The ones that interest me the most: Battlefield 3 and Heroes of Newerth :)
Battlefield crashes with DirectX error (can't remember it exactly) and HoN wit some other error

I'm thinking about reducing the RAM from 1066 to 800 actually. Would this help? Abd where do I set it? :) Screens of my BIOS are two posts above :)

Or maybe I should revert CPU Host Frequency to default?
Right now it's on 400, which gives me 3200MHz instead of 2600MHz. I did not change then CPU Voltage though.

Hi again!
I managed to get'em up and running stable, but only at 800 MHz.
If I switch to 1066+ Windos works stable, but games don't.

I will post photos my current BIOS settings later this evening, in case it might help any one with same problems.
And maybe you could tell me if there's something that could be done to get them working on 1066 :)
