Hi Guys,

Just joined, how to be able to help in the future!

Unfortunately i am having a nightmare of my own today!

Went to boot my laptop with morning and i get a blue screen of death with the following error:

"UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"

STOP 0x000000ED

System restore was futile, i am going to run a memtest to help deduce the problem. But my 2 main concerns are

1. Is there a way to backup some important files to a USB? I only have a few but i have spent a lot of time on them as i have recently cancelled my hosting/scheduled backups...

2. Is there a way to definitely prove that it is hardware (if it is of course) because i do have it insured but i need some proof, otherwise they are just gonna try and shaft me.

Will report memtest results when complete.

Look forward to hearing from someone!

Thanks!

Joe

I did uninstall a few programs, but that was a few days ago and i have booted up noramlly since then, is this likely to be the cause? If so does that increase/decrease my chances of pulling anything off it?

Thanks for quick reply!

Just wondering. A driver might have been removed.
For example I just recently uninstalled a RAID driver and software for an old IDE controller card. My computer wouldn't get past the windows loading screen after that.

You said that system restore didn't work. Does that mean you tried to get into safe mode? If not get into safe mode and run a checkdisk.

Thanks for the replies, i managed to fix it in the end! Based on what DavidChase said, however when the system restore didnt work, i ran the system repair tool, left it for at least 4 hours, and it worked again!

Thanks again for all the help!
