im upgrading my gtx 560 ti and my options are hd 7870 or gtx 660. the gtx 660 is $30 cheaper in my country. i keep hearing that the hd 7870 is better but alot of game benchmarks ive seen show the gtx 660 is better. i want to upgrade to play bf4 mostly and ive also heard that bf4 is more amd friendly where as bf3 favored nvidia.

ok so for bf4 which shoul i get. gtx 660 or hd 7870? i will most likely overclock a little bit too

i was looking at the 7850 when i said 10 fps difference my bad. so this indicates the gtx 660 is slightly better prices aside? if i get the gtx 660 i wont have to wait long to buy a 60gb ssd so my pc can feel more like a console and not take 2 mins to fully boot :) but if there is any decent advantage to the 7870 i will get it. what card would be more future proof?

if you're planning dual gpu setups in the future, the 660 is the way to go. in terms of single card setups, the 256-bit bus on the 7870 is supposed to be more future proof than the 192 of the 660, but benchmarks, including the bf4 alpha BMs, are not showing much difference in performance.

sorry i put my question inside of your quote by accident. i asked if cf/sli is worth getting with a mobo that has x16 and a x4 pcie slot. i have the m5a97 asus

Unless its stated somewhere else, your motherboard does not state support for SLI. if you're looking to add a second GPU down the road, I would get the 7870 in the event that it does not support SLI. how much will the x4 PCIe 2.0 slot bottleneck the second card? I would guess anywhere between 5-20%, but don't quote me on that. But what I'm sure is that you will get a significant performance increase from CF'ing two 7870s, frame pacing issues withholding. What CPU and frequency are you running?
