Hi,
I am stumped. We have Time Warner cable with a brand new Surboard hybrid modem and wireless router. Have a tp-link TL-WA5210G repeater that only allows G and WEP. Working, but keeps dropping signal so computers have to reacquire. Have tried multiple wireless routers, TW says everything is good on their end. SB set up on 192.168.0.1 and TP-Link on 192.168.1.240 static. Is that an issue? Should I set a static ip for the tp-link that is on on the same range as the SB?
Have moved the router different places inside room to try to find stability. tp-link is about 100 feet away and outside on a pole to provide wireless for outbuildings.

Thanks in advance.

Solution
I would normally set up a repeater or access point with a static address that is in the network range. You will need to access the Motorola and have the MAC address of the repeater handy.

Thanks RealBeast (like your avatar) - Yes, I would agree about the distance if we had not had this set-up for a year with no problems and a less powerful modem. We are in a guest house and am trying to not bug my hosts. They will allow me to work on the system to try to improve signal, speed, etc. and there are many settings on both the modem/router and the repeater (Motorola SBF6580 and Tp-link TL-WA5210G.) However, I am afraid of losing the little bit of connectivity that we have at the moment. I'm a little gun-shy. Sadly, I'm not sure I want to ask my hosts to put a hole in their house and bury a cable, etc. etc.
Do you know if the different ip ranges on the router and repeater could cause any issues? I am thinking of changing the static address of the repeater to within the router range, and I also plan to try opendns.com to see if that might help some. Time Warner is notorious for slow speeds on their internet in our area. Beyond that, I am feeling a little desperate. I do websites for a living and need to get up and running. I've got 3 clients on hold at the moment.

Thanks again.

Thanks. I changed ip address. By the way in case anyone wants to know, you cannot use opendns.com with the motorola sbg6580. Time Warner coming tomorrow to check all our physical connections. I hope that works. For now, I think the issue is solved. Thanks, RealBeast!
