Since I am quite unhappy with my Dell U3014 I'm looking for a replacement.

I would like:
- 2560x1440 resolution
- 2 ms
- 120hz ?

Actually.. Just the very best gaming FPS monitor money can buy.

I've been using google some bit and I found BenQ27" XL2720T. Is this any good choice?

Thanks for your time and help.

That BenQ XL2720T monitor is great for gaming. I would definitely head toward the 120Hz+ monitors if the monitor is for gaming and you play a lot of first-person shooters (FPS). There is very little input lag on these monitors. That is key when it comes to split-second timing when you are firing on an enemy. You just can't beat the higher refresh panels for shooters. There is very little blur on these monitors and tearing tends to be far less noticeable on these monitors. Both are key for shooters.

If I played primarily MMORPGs or RTS games which do not require the timing precision, I'd pick up the 2560x1440 for the extra resolution. There are some Korean panels on Ebay that say 120Hz and 2560x1440, but if you look at the descriptions further, the 120Hz is an OC'd refresh rate that is not guaranteed. It also states the monitor can't be returned if your monitor won't OC to 120Hz. The lower-cost 1440p monitors tend to have fair-to-poor contrast as well so when you're playing shooters and your enemy is hiding in the shade, you might not see them so well.

On the other hand, the MMORPG and RTS games are pretty cool to play in 3D. You don't get that on the higher res monitors.

Ideally, you'd have one of each monitor for either situation; a good 120Hz (or 3) TN monitor for shooters and a 2560x1440 ips monitor for other purposes.

If you were only looking for a 24" monitor, what do you think of ASUS VG248QE (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313). I am curious since I am also in the market, but this one is so much cheaper than the BenQ listed above. Not sure if the extra 3" is worth the price Increase since this one has better contrast ratio and everything.

23" 24" go 1080p and for 27" go 1440p.... 27" at 1080p looks funny sorta

I don't find any clarity problems with 1080p at 27". Now with my 40 1080p TV it would be a different story, but looks pretty crisp as close as 4-5ft+ away.

Also, it's much easier to line up a shot when your target takes up more of your screen's visual real estate than with higher density pixels using less screen area.

With good video cards and AA, there's no issue with things looking like Donky Kong or Pac Man.

If the blown up look 27" 1080p on the right doesnt bother you then yea it would work but as for me at 27"1440p i want everything to look as sharp as possible as the same as 23" 24"1080p and at 1440p why not take the extra pixels..MUCH clearer/define image for gaming well atleast me anyway

I know there's a difference. It's definitely a matter of preference.

I've used both and to me you cannot beat the lack of input lag and reduced blur the 120Hz screens offer especially if you're playing first-person shooters. With an IPS screen, since they're all 60Hz screens (those with guaranteed refresh rates anyhow), you have to turn on v-sync or the tearing is atrocious. Couple that with the inherent input lag of an IPS screen and you have input lag times two. This is a definite advantage for your opponent in a multi-player situation. For these reasons, I won't consider going to an IPS screen for gaming.

Also, I find the 1440p screens to pack too many pixels into too small of an area. Yes more information is showing on the screen and color accuracy is increased on the 27" 1440p IPS monitor, but text is smaller and targets are smaller because of the increased pixel density, and tearing and blur are so much more noticeable on a screen that can only refresh at 60Hz.

This is why I'd only recommend a 1440p monitor to MMORPG and RTS fans. If you seldom play shooters, I say go for it with a 1440p monitor or 1600p monitor, otherwise I'd steer clear of them.

I wish they had a 30" 1440p non-ips monitor (so less input lag) with a 120Hz refresh rate. I think this pixel density would be more ideal than with a 27".

Since they don't offer something like this and I primarily play first-person shooters, I stick with the 27" 1080p 120Hz screen.

Its all what your use to i game at 1440p and do fine yes 120hz is better but its a TN/1080p panel and those downsides to me are eh pretty much what i came off of before getting the new monitor between refresh rate and resolution ima take resolution. FPS games i really dont have any problems

So it boils down to what the op wants either a TN/1080p panel with 120hz or a IPS/PLS 1440p with 60Hz..Either way he wont go wrong theres pros and cons to both. As for me im not a super competitive FPS thats going to a championship for the final rounds so 60hz dont bother me
