Whats the difference in 2 4gig sticks of ram vs 1 8 gig stick of ram?

I've searched around about this, but I get mixed answers so basically, if I can get 1 8 gig stick for cheaper than 2 4 gig sticks then would it make a difference in future gaming?

If you use only one RAM stick your PC will run single channel mode. And your PC will have lower performance. Also if you buy the other 8GB RAM later, it is not guaranty for both RAM work with each other, you will take the chance.

+1 Dual channel can provide up to 10-15% performance gain and yes, can encounter problems if you want to upgrade memory, not a good idea to mix sticks from different packages
