I have a msi h87-g43 motherboard. When I turn it on, the case speaker I put on is not working. The bios loads and everything else seems to work. I know it is in the right spot and I have placed it both ways. This is my first time building a computer and it is concerning me.

Solution
all motherboard speakers are good for is beeps for post codes like P1nnacle said (or sometimes OS related errors), if you're expecting to be able to play things through it in windows, that won't work.

That varies from board to board if it beeps just because it's starting, i would call it a good thing because that would drive me bonkers unless there was a reason to beep. Again, depending on the board, there may well be a bios setting to turn on post beeps.
