This is my current system, I want to slowly start upgrading it. Was thinking about start with a new graphics card and power supply. Would like budget friendly suggestions. Possibly cheapest route to seeing great improvements on frame rates

One of the above suggested cards would be a huge boost to your frame rates, a better PSU will be a must though, so i'd do the PSU first so as to not endanger your nice new GPU. I'd go after the CPU after that, maybe an FX 6300, wouldn't cost too much after you sold your 4100

I like it, looking at roughly $250 going with the 7870... Do you think the system would be holding back the GPU anywhere else on the system or would this upgrade be fine with the current components?

Yep, that's the one, great CPU, two more cores that you've got, and the newer piledriver architecture for a pretty big processing power increase overall
