my external drive developed a CRC error,
i was able to recover all my files using testdisk and now i want to reformat it and get it working again.

however, formatting via windows is not possible as the drive doesn't map properly. under Disk Manager, it shows as uninitialized and the partition is unallocated.

when i am prompted to initialized, I click Yes but it fails and I get the CRC error message.

I solved my own problem! Hooray!

HD Sentinel worked! As soon as I installed it, windows recognized the drive immediately in Disk Manager and i was able to initialize then reformat

TestDisk to COPY all files first
HD Sentinel to INITIALIZE the disk and be able to format it
