Well, I just finished my first build, and unfortunately, didn't read up much on my power supply:

COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus 550w
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Now that I've read that this series of PSU is basically crap and can burn out your other components, I'm worried about my computer.
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz
MOBO: MSI Z77IA-E53 LGA 1155 Intel Z77
HDD: Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB
GPU: GTX 760
PSU: COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-550-PCAR-E3
RAM: Kingston HyperX Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3
GPU: EVGA GTS 250 1GB
CASE: Fractal Design Node 304 FD-CA-NODE-304-BL Black

Should I send it back to newegg for a refund and buy a more decent PSU like a Corsair CX600, or is it not as bad as they say?

Personally I would get another one.

Use this for PSU's: http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx

Its decent up to 75% of its maximum rating, but you could certainly use 75%. What kind of a budget would you have for a PSU? And the CX600 is a pretty good model.

Thanks. Turning off my machine, killing like 100 zip ties, and returning the CM.

ATX PSUs, up to 160mm in length (To fit in combination with a long graphics card, PSUs with modular connectors on the back typically need to be shorter than 160 mm)

149.86 < XFX 550 Length.

The XFX will fit.
