Hey all. I'm building a mini boombox for my son. I'm using a small amplifier and it will house an iPod dock as well. What I can't figure out is how to tsp into a power supply to run both amp power and USB power.

Here is the power supply http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-12-Volt-DC-Power-Supply-5-Amp-5A-12V-Adapter-LCD-CB-/280869637201

The amp won't draw nearly the full amount of juice, so there is plenty of room. I just don't want two power cords coming out of the unit. The mp is an LP2020 and it will be driving two small full range speakers.

So is there any I can solder a USB cable into this thing, and get the proper voltage and all?

So how would I determine which wires to connect? I'm assuming when I open the power brick, there won't be a red and white. I essentially have to open the USB charger and the power brick, so how do I match the wires?

I was thinking of just running the wires through the holes in the plug. Run the wires through, solder, wrap in tape. Should feed both adapters. Power draw sounds low so no worries about anything odd happening. Easier then trying to open the USB casing and hoping to do some PCB splicing/soldering.
