I am a first time builder my components are...

Cooler Master Elite 431
ASUS P8Z77 V LX
i5 3570k
GTX 760
Corsair CX600 PSU
Corsair Vengeance 8GB

So I was doing fine with my first build, everything was going smoothly even got my machine to POST and BIOS while breadboarding, even left it running for a couple of minutes to make sure.

I assembled the MOBO, CPU, GPU and RAM outside of the case, everything started up fine full POST and BIOS screen. Then once I put everything inside and tried to start it up I got no boot. I will describe in detail what is happening.

When I turn on my PSU the MOBO's "On" light is green, I can also see other lights on the MOBO, however when I hit the power button on the case OR short the 2 power pins (tried both) my fan spins for a split second then stops. If I wiggle the 24 pin power cable a little bit I can see more fan activity but I don't think the system is booting.

Also get a split second of light from my case when I press the power button, it lasts about as long as the fan spins for....

Anyone have an idea of what is going on?
Or steps I should take to rule out a faulty part?

It's just weird that I got a full POST and everything seemed to be working before I put it in the case.

I have double and triple checked all my wiring, it has been done correctly.

Please help!

Solution
Make sure the brass standoffs are used and the mb and CPU cooler not touching the mb tray. Some cases the tray is pressed up. On the mb io shield make sure the metal fingers not hitting the bottom of the mb or the ports. Try unplugging the case fans and USB ports on at a time to rule out one of the devices having a dead short.

I took the motherboard back out to confirm this and it booted just fine, What might be wrong with my standoffs?
