I have recently developed a startup issue in Windows 7. On an initial startup the computer resets as the windows logo is forming, then during the next boot the error recovery window appears. I then select start windows normally and windows boots without an issue.

This is happening consistently. The first startup resets in exactly the same spot then it boots fine from the error recovery window.

I was not supplied an installation cd at the time of purchase and I can't locate the recovery discs I had made.

What information do y need to know?

Download a disk image of the same Windows 7 version that your computer uses from HERE, and then burn it to a DVD. That will be your install disk.

What brand and model computer or motherboard?

Also, have you run memtest86 from HERE burned to a CD as smorizio suggested?

You need to boot from the optical drive for either the memtest or installation disk to work.

I tried the memory test for windwos but the boot issues interrupted it so could not get a report. I am following the steps you suggested at the moment. One thing I did note is that interrupting the boot, such as going to the boot menu at startup enables the startup to complete without an issue

Motherboard is Gigabyte Technologies Z68XP-UD3

I have Windows 7 update DVDs from a different computer would this work as install CDs

I would try clearing the CMOS (bios) by unplugging the machine and move the clear CMOS jumper briefly and then back, and as smorizio suggested replace your bios battery (CR2032) that are really cheap at Home Depot.

Also check to see if there are any bios updates for your motherboard.

An update disk will not work the same as a full install DVD image.
