Hi,

Im upgrading my computer and these 2 processors currently fit my budget range. When i searched the internet which is better, i couldn't get any definitive answers, mainly because the G3220 is very new and doesn't have a review yet.
Although the AMD processor has more clock speed, it has no L3 cache( dont even know why is this relevant) . Also the G3220 L2 cache size is half of the A6-5400k's (512 and 1024kb respectively). But then again, i dont really understand, despite reading up on them, how much will these facts affect performance.
As my computer will be mostly for gaming, can someone recommend which is better for this purpose?

(I dont care about the integrated GPU of the A6-5400k, since i will use a dedicated graphics card. Also dont tell me there are more expensive and much better CPU-s out there designed for gaming, as i said, these fit my budget range.)

Thank you!

If you use a dedicated gpu, why buy an apu? Get something like a Athlon II 750k or FX6300

FX6300 is too expensive for me, is the 750k better than the 2 processors i compared?

Avoid any dual core CPU at all cost if you want something that is future proof.
The Athlon II 750k is the best choice as they all mention if your are on strict budget.
Future games will make use of more CPU cores so the dual core will limit performance on most games.

Get the intel pentium g3220 for real future proofing. Replace it with higher class haswell/broadwell chip later.
If you plan on adding discrete graphics, intel is the better choice. These amd fan boys and their weak chips.... Only buy amd apu when you dont intend to upgrade ever and or dont plan to use discrete videocards. Even a celeron (core architecture) with discrete graphics will always beat amd apu's with similar price and there is a clear upgrade path.

This is a great, unbiased guideline when deciding on a gaming cpu.

The 750k is a good cpu that, compared against other ~80$ cpus, will push the most frames for most of today games, as most of them utilize more than 2 cores.

However, if there's a specific game you're planning to spend most of your time on, you should check that one and see if there's a specific cpu / architecture it favors.

@Realguidepc - can you purchase a Core 2 or a Nehalem cpu today?
