I am hoping to upgrade my processor. I have a Dell 0KXFG0 A00 motherboard Serial Number: 653LWL1.CN759000C90004
Bus Clock: 532 megahertz
BIOS: Dell Inc. A06 12/22/2010 with a 1.73 gigahertz Intel Core i7 Q740 M processor 64 kilobyte primary memory cache 256 kilobyte secondary memory cache 6144 kilobyte tertiary memory cache 64-bit ready
Multi-core (4 total) Hyper-threaded (8 total). 8128 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory and Running Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601). I do not know the generation but think it might be #1 and want to upgrade to the fastest replacement CPU possible. Possible questions are the need for a CPU cooling fan. Does anyone have an experience with this subject. Thank you

I had the same CPU in one of my laptops a couple of years ago, it is the first generation i7. What is the reason you want to upgrade? If you are very lucky you might be able to put another i7 in it that's a few hundred megahertz faster, but it will cost you hundreds of dollars for the part and you will have to take the whole laptop apart and hope you can put it back together right. Most laptop CPU's aren't replaceable because they are soldered to the motherboard. Your processor is very fast for a laptop processor so that's why I don't understand why you want to upgrade.

Faster in what way? You won't see any difference in browsing the web or with most programs. Just because your cpu says 1.73 ghz, it doesn't mean it's slow. Nobody can ever tell you what CPU you can upgrade with because laptops aren't meant for CPU upgrades and there is no support list. The only thing you can do is see if there are different variants of your laptop model that have a faster cpu which would tell you that it possibly can be upgraded but there is still the issue of the cpu that's probably soldered to your motherboard.
