ASUS Maximus VI GENE does not detect the CPU fan

Hello!

When i boot my system my new ASUS Maximus VI GENE motherboard warns me that there is a "CPU FAN ERROR". I've had the stock intel cooler replaced with a Scythe Big Shuriken 2 rev.b and it seems to be working just fine got 500-600 rpm idle, i haven't tested it at heavy load though.

What do you think, why my MB keeps telling my this same warning when i boot my system?

Found it. In your bios (under the monitor header) go into fan speed control (not the fan speed monitor), there is an option for minimum fan speed. Set it down to 300 or so and that should fix your problem (if I am on the right track).

Yup, double checked it ofc. But its hard to mix it up cause the MB have the connectors names written on it (like CPU_FAN, CASE_FAN etc.), the MB has an OPT. CPU FAN connector too, ive tried it also but the same problem appeared.

Some guy wrote on an other forum, that plugging another CPU fan into the OPT_CPU FAN connector might be a solution... but i still dont understand why im getting this boot error code

I am getting this error message, too, on my Sabertooth board. And I´ve read of several other people with the same problem.
No idea what the cause is. But it really doesn´t matter. Just ignore the fan reading in the BIOS.

To be honest, i don't want to disable the Q-FAn in the BIOS, maybe a newer revision of the BIOS could solve the problem... but this is a fairly new MB so i don't think if there was any

I've updated my BIOS to the latest revision, but nothing had changed...

I think I'm gonna write to ASUS technical support... It's strange that many users have the same problem still you couldnt find anything about it on the ASUS forums or anywhere on the off. site.

Since its a relatively new MB, it should be on the top of their MB division's to-do-list :p :)

Either way, it's annoying, and when someone buy a high-end MB, i think mistakes like that cannot be tolerated

Your aftermarket CPU fan is larger than a stock fan and it runs at lower RPMs. The bios is set to give a warning when the CPU fan goes below a certain RPM, typically around 600. On my previous Asus, I was able to actually set the RPM warning level to a lower RPM to match the aftermarket fan's lower speeds, and that fixed the issue.

I'm not at home right now, but I'll definitely try it as soon as possible and will update this post ofc.

I've set the CPU fan to the min. 200 rpm and no longer have any CPU FAN ERROR msg, thank you very much!
