Hi,
I am in the process of researching computers for my girlfriend who has always been an Apple user. She is tired of lugging the Macbook Pro her work issued her back and forth and has decided she's ready to own a personal computer again.
The primary tasks she does at home are:
1. Watches movies on Netflix
2. Uses Microsoft Word to edit/write things for work.
3. Surf the web/Listen to music.
Some other factors to consider:
1. Under US $500, preferably closer to US $400
2. We share a very small apartment in NYC.
3. She is open to the idea of an all-in-one desktop since she really likes the idea of having a big screen.
The last time I researched laptops I relied heavily on Consumer Reports' assessment that Toshiba was the all around best quality laptop for Windows users. I'm not sure if that information is outdated now. I own a Satellite series and for 3 years it's done pretty well, all things considered.
I've also heard that Lenovo makes some great laptops, as well as the Dell XPS series. I've heard to avoid gateway/compaq/HP (no idea if that is accurate anymore)
For all in ones, I assume it's a similar spread of companies.
Here are the computers I've found in different places that look like a good value:
Lenovo all-in-one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883265516
Anything from the Toshiba Sattelite series under 500
Anything from Lenovo under 500
Is there anything I'm missing?
