I just purchased a ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard and I'm looking for some input or opinions on what the best memory for this board would be. I have one friend telling me stick with some crosair vengence 1600, and another to go with g.skill trident X 2400 and over clock them. Any help is appreciated, Thank you.

Part of the answer may be determined by what you do, if simply gaming then 1600 or 1866 will suffice, 1600 is the accepted entry level theses days, (I normally suggest 1866) though if you do more with your rig like multi-tasking, images, video, CAD, andything memory centric then you can benefit from higher freq DRAM, amount is also up to you 8GB is plenty for gaming, if you do more may want to think 16GB, regardless I've run through a lot of sets of sticks on my Hero, from 8-32GB and 1866-2800 sticks and settled on 32 GB of 2666, in addition to Tridents have tried a number of set of Snipers, Ripjaws (both X and Z models) and the Tridents before selecting the Tri's

All I do is game, and I'm trying to build a monster to handle anything. So I should stick with 8-16 GB of 1866 then? Thank you for the help

Would you recommend the G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 , G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 or something else

Of the two above with the Hero, I had better luck with the Snipers (I ran a 2x4GB, 4x4gb, and 2x8GB of 1866, 2 and 4x8GB 2133, in each case all popped right up under XMP and could OC up a step, the the RJs were close on the OC but slightly behind where using same size sets (needed a little extra voltage)

Thank you for all the help man. I ended up going with the G.SKILL Trident X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin SDRAM DDR3 2400.
