Accidentally unplugged Compaq CQ70 now its dead

Hi, stupidly I tripped over the ac lead and it unplugged, now I can't turn the laptop on with or without battery in it. Any ideas? Thank you!

Unplugging with your foot won't do any more damage than unplugging with your hand so something else happened. Did the laptop fall on the floor?

Remove the battery and leave it out. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and turn the laptop on.

I think the motherboard got fried. I work in Desktop Support and a user just killed his HP laptop by docking it. Same symptoms. Wouldn't boot.

how can I tell if this is the case (am no computer expert) - could this really happen by it being unplugged accidentally?

Take out the battery, take out RAM sticks, unplug the HDD/SSD, then reinsert all of them and try to bootup. See how it goes.

Yes you could do it yourself, just have some belief in you. You know how to remove the backup battery, so its not a problem. Now about removing the RAM sticks. Turn over the laptop, you would see some screws tighten the back plate, unscrew the screws, remove the back plate. Now you should see the RAM and the HDD. Watch carefully how the RAM is seated, you would need that at the time of inserting them back in place. Tap on both sides of the RAM with your fingers and pull it towards you, that's it you have removed them successfully. Just do the opposite to insert them.

You don't need to remove the whole HDD, just unplug the SATA and power connections by pulling towards you, wait for a minute, then insert it back. After this replace the back plate, tighten the screws, bootup the laptop. First try with the power cable.

If this seems to be very hard for you to do, then give me the details of the laptop make/model, I will try to post a disassemble guide for you.

Actually, I remember reading about things similar happening to certain consoles (PS2 and Wii, iirc).

The fix was to just unplug them and wait for half an hour.

Mayhaps give patience a shot?
