Forgive my noobishness! I have six gb of ram (3 2gb sticks) but only four are showing up. I was also thinking of buying another few gigs of ram in preparation for Battlefield 3 and GTA V. Is that a wise decision?

Windows 7 (x64) Ultimate
Asus P6X58D-E
intel i7 930 w/Corsair H60 (overclocked to 4.0GHz) biggrin.gif
ATI Radeon 5700
PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III Series 750W

Solution
bios and windows only see 4gb... you have a bad module. run memtest, or boot system with 1 stick at a time to determine which one of the 3 modules are dead.

It seems like one of your dims is either bad or not properly seated in the slot. Double check your 3 sticks of ram and make sure they are properly inside the slot. Also make sure you are using the right slots... (the 3 blue ones). If they are, theres a good chance you have a blown module. At that point, just put one stick in at a time and see if it boots. The one it doesn't boot on is the bad stick.

6gb of ram should be just fine to run BF3, the real challenge will be getting good framerates out of your Radeon 5700. If you are considering an upgrade of any kind, go for a new video card. a GTX760 would rip apart what you have now, and they are decently priced.

I would check the seating on the third stick, it may not be fully in the slot. If you are sure that all three sticks are well seated, I would run the free MEMTEST86 to see which sticks are showing up and passing and which is not.

You have installed them in A1, B1 and C1 or A2 B2 and C2 slots?
