Hello, so my ps3 was beginning to run very loudly. As in jet-engine loud. Took the ps3 apart, cleaned it out well and applied new thermal paste to the heat sink. Turned the ps3 back on and now it overheats within 30 seconds to 1 minute (message on screen) the light would turn yellow for a split second then blink red. Took it apart again to make sure everything was hooked up correctly, double checked that the cpu and heat sink were touching sufficiently applied new thermal paste and put it back together again. Now I am getting no signal input, the ps3 is shutting down after about 1 minute.(I'm assuming from overheating).

It appears as though the fan is spinning when I turn the ps3 on, but stops immediately. I did the fan test (held in the eject button while turning the power on) and the fan did NOT come on. At this point, I don't know if this is proof the fan is bad? Not getting an input signal is concerning me as well, I don't want to buy a replacement fan if there is another problem as well. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated... I'm ready to pull my hair out over this! Thanks

As you said it could be the fan, but it could also be that something could have had damage from overheating but that's only a guess and it could be shutting down to prevent any further damage. It might be worth taking it to a store to take a look and they may find the issue. Last resort is to buy a new console but I sure hope you wont need to come to that.

Thanks Andy, however I can't afford a new console right now. I'm usually fairly adept at repairing small machines and pc's I didn't think the ps3 would give me this much trouble. I expected everything to work fine after my work, not what ENDED up happening which has me pretty confused... i've seen others on this site give some great technical advice (on consoles as well as pc's) and hoped someone could point me in the right direction for what could have went wrong or what the next diagnostic step would be

Your options look limited at the moment but you have already looked at the thermal paste issue, but did you get the red and yellow light (YLOD) before taking it apart and applying the paste?
