Hey guys,

Im looking to get a CPU liquid cooler for my alienware, but im not sure if i have to get the Alienware specific one or if there is a better one for the money that will do the job?

Thanks alot guys, always appreciated! :)

Nope, any CLC that fits your CPU socket (which no doubt will be most of them) and uses a 120mm radiator should work with your Alienware.
Though TBH, CLC liquid cooling isnt that good compared to air-cooling. You can spend far less on an air heatsink and get similar performance.

How much are you looking to spend?

Thanks for the reply! okay well can you recommend any any fans/fan set ups?
Im planning to get a Asus P9X79 LE board with a Intel Core i7 4930K Extreme or a Intel Core i7 3930K (which ever one is better if you could recommend them?)

i will probably be doing some heavy rendering at some points as well.

OK, I thought you were getting a gaming machine, didnt think you would be looking at chips like that.
That changes my recommendation, now I suggest you get something like a Noctua NH-D14. The 212 EVO is a good budget cooler on a mainstream platform, but the chips your looking at have near double the TDP (heat output/power consumption) so probably isnt going to cut it.

Go for the 4930k (non extreme, dont pay the extra for a 4930X) if you can. If its a decent price gap between it and the 3930k, go for the 3930k, their isnt much difference in performance.

Also, if your buying a rig of this calibre from Alienware I imagine it costs a lot more than it needs to be. Have you considered custom building?

ah sorry! I probably should have said at the start of the threat! sorry about that!
okay awesome! ill have a look into getting that fan! it looks massive though! will that not cause lots of noise? or is that something thats quite unavoidable for the machine that i want to make?

well there only seems to be around a £20 difference between the 4930k and the 3930k so ill go for the 4930k then! thanks for that!

Well i got given an Alienware Area 51 ALX case from a friend. it has all the lights in, a PSU, and a x58 motherboard in it, so i figured i could just build into that, replace the motherboard as its old and just work from there. Is this achievable?
