Which CPU would be a better choice. I know the Sandy Bridge is the older version but I am curious as to whether or not the Ivy Bridge is better.

Solution
Well, simple answer is; of course it's better. Unless you're only looking at it from a budget perspective, it is a slight overall improvement. Namely, it's at a smaller manufacturing process, 32nm for Sandy, 22nm for Ivy which gives it an undeniable processing power/efficiency advantage. Plus, Ivy Bridge has some added features and all that blah-blah.

But as the the above member says, it's not really worth a new cpu/mobo.

They are basically identical, 4930k has slightly higher base and turbo clock speeds
and built on the smaller process node so it uses a bit less power and generates a bit less heat.

Ideally if you building a new system buy the 4930k
If you already have a 3930k its not worth the upgrade
