Hello gentlemen, please contribute your theories and thoughts.

I recently installed a fresh version of Windows 7 Ultimate x86. The official and latest drivers from AMD/ATI/Gigabyte does not want to get installed and instead gives me a "Blue Screen of Death" on install. The video card driver can be downloaded and installed from windows updates but it is an old driver from 2011 and it wont let me open Catalyst Control Center for some reason, it also gave me unstable FPS on games and I was forced to play on the lowest graphic settings/resolution. Also note that the graphic card did not have any problems working in Windows XP SP3, the graphic drivers installed just fine and CCC also launched when I told it to. There was absolutely no FPS problems on Windows XP. But as you may understand I want to be able to use it on Windows 7 so please do not bother if you´re going to tell me that I should just settle with XP.

By the way, I have already tried to remove every single trace of AMD and ATI by searching for folders related to it, I have cleaned the %temp% directory and the Registry, I have also used "Driver Sweeper" to make sure everything was deleted properly before re-installing any drivers.

First of all thank you for contributing and for your concern.

But I have used this set-up on Windows XP for nearly a year and it worked just fine, I had about 150FPS on most games and the system was very stable, no FPS drops or BSODs/Blackscreens/Freezes. I´m pretty sure that if I was to install Windows XP again it would work just as it did before. I´m thinking about buying a new PC soon anyway but I just want to get the most out of this one untill it breaks.

So any suggestions except for buying a new PSU would be much appreciated!

Thank you for yet another contribution, I have tried every single driver I came across which were quite a few. I have tried older drivers, latest drivers, unofficial drivers, official drivers. The only thing that seems to "work" at all is the one that Windows Update gave me.

The link you just gave me threw me down the BSoD pit just as much like the other drivers I´ve tried.
