Warning: you are about to experience my typing from a tablet in the corner of the room on the floor next to a wall outlet since the battery is about to die. Words will be missing letters because the virtual keyboard can't keep up and will dmp them elsewhere. And the ability the fix errors is terrible so stick wwith me.

My computer has been having this problem for a week. Sunday I get home from a weekend away and go to turn on my computer and it black screens after the Windows is Starting screen or whatever it says... the screen just cuts off and the screen power button just starts flashing like it is asleep. I figure that Windows some how corrupted so I stick in a Linux USB and backup all my important files and reformat the hard drive for a clean install which I try to do around twice a year anyway. Do all of that and get everything going and that night it shuts down perfectly fine.

The next day I start it up and everything is going smoothly everything is back in place and I go to turn it off that night and it won't shut off through the start menu. The screen cuts off and the light starts to flash on the monitor like normal but the fans are still going. I end up having to cut it off with the power button.

It is now Tuesday and I go to turn it on an the windows is starting screen appears and does like Sunday and goes to a black screen. So I pop I the windows disk and hit recover. Says recovery failed but when the counter restarts all works as normal. Go to turn it off ad it went tun off again so I ave to press the power button.

Wednesday clear the cmos and everything works fine and shuts down.

Thursday turns on fine. Thought the problem solved... go to turn it off and wont turn off again... hit thepower button and hold it down for a minute straight and it won't turn off... end up having to unplug it.

Ow I am here asking for some help... I figure that it is the ssd, mb, or PSU... my first thought was the ssd. But will a bad ssd cause the system to not shut down especially with thelast case? When it started to not shutdown I immediately thought something fishing is going on with the motherboard but everything worked fineh with linux . Browsing around the internet looking for help revealed it might be the psu but it seems to be in working order anddoesnt explain thE windows problem .. only thing i haven'tied is updating the bios. I have had problem with the bios screen flashing three time for awhile and a bios flash around 6 months ago didnt fix it.. but this seems all of a sudden for that.

Tech specs:
M5A99X Asus MB
Samsung 830 128gb ssd
Corsair 750 HX
Windows 7
Fx 8320
G.Skill 8gb ram

Sorry for the bad spelling and such. I am forced to use a tablet in the ffloor the corner of the room since the battery is dieing since my desktop doesnt work.

Solution
The shutdown....no video but fans still running is a known asus mb bios issue. If the mb has the newest bios then rma the mb. You can see by googling a lot asus mb have this death bug.

Haven't updated the bios recently so I I'll try that. I am at my parents till tomorrow night so mainly I am trying to get as many ideas as possible. If its the motherboard I will just buy a new one and RMA that one. Been meaning to build a second backup system for awhile and that will given me more incentive to go ahead with it.
