gtx 580 3gb

Solution

Yes.. 2GB of video RAM is enough for 1080p and if you're worried then just get the GTX 580 3GB so you don't have to worry about it anymore. The 3 cards are so similar in performance that it won't matter much either way you go. The GTX 580 is hotter, uses more power, and it won't overclock as far... But other than that performance is fairly similar between the GTX 580 and GTX 660 right out of the box.

Watch that video that talks about how much video ram you really need.
Not when the HD 7950 is available for a similar price brand new, is much faster, and comes with 3 free games. Really even a GTX 660 would be a better choice and you can find those for around $200 too.

The HD 7950 is the better card in this situation and the GTX 580 is your slowest option. Since you're willing to go used you could probably find even better deals on these cards.

The GTX 580 can't properly take advantage of the full 3GB of video ram but it's still better to be limited by the power of your GPU than the video RAM. I would say not to get the GTX 580 at $200 when something better and new is available for just a little more money. The GTX 660 is well worth the extra $50 because it's new, it comes with a game(not actually sure if that deal is available in Australia), it has a warranty, and it's faster. The GTX 580 is still a decent card but not worth it when you can get something better for just a little bit more. Try and get a lower price.

3GB VRAM is only useful if you use 4x MSAA in crysis 3. for 8x MSAA you need about 6GB. this is assuming all the other settings are maxed.

otherwise the 580 is a waste when the HD 7950 and GTX 760 are available for so cheap.

I would say that the 3GB recommended requirement is only made with people who are running with higher resolutions in mind and that 2GB is probably fine for 1080P. I can't imagine it needing much more than Battlefield 3.

Sense you can't afford anything better the GTX 580 3GB version is decent at $190. The HD 7870 and GTX 660 are good alternatives for a similar price. They offer about the same performance but use less power and produce less heat and noise than a GTX 580. The HD 7870 is the best overall. I found them on ebay.com.au
