Hello everyone,

I will try describe the problem the shortest I can with as much information as I can, and really hope someone would take time to post me some suggestions.

I recently purchased a Lenovo Laptop with a 1TB 16GB (ssd) Seagate SSHD.
It had already Windows 8 pre installed and was (to me) strangely partitioned, had some ETI partition, Recovery partition one other that i cant remember the name and 2 normal partitions for storage C and D.

So I wanted to replace that built in SSHD with a 240gb SSD and I opened up the laptop and just normally replaced it but when I turned it back on I realized it was booting in some spacial way that I am not familiar with. It kept asking for that ETI partition. So in BIOS i just changed boot from UXXX (I don't remember whats the other 3 letters) to Legacy Support (I think that's what its called) and managed to install a clean copy of WIndows 8 Pro on my SSD and everything works just fine.

But, the SSHD that I removed from the laptop just won't appear in BIOS on my Desktop nor my other laptop, it won't work even when I put into a portable HDD USB case thing.

Does anyone know whats going on with it and what my options may be. I was planning on using that drive as a portable storage.

Cheers!

Todd

Hi fzabkar, thank you for your reply

If by that you mean if I can hear a sound when I connect it with sata cable and power supply and start the computer, no, can't hear or feel anything on touch.

Normally that would suggest that the HDD is dead or powering up in standby (PUIS). Does it still work in the original laptop?

BTW, if you are not certain whether the drive is spinning, put your ear to it when you have it in your USB enclosure.

If the drive is definitely faulty, there may be a simple fix. I would need to see a photo of the component side of the PCB, though.

Something like these ...

As it doesn't work even in the original laptop it is probably very dead :(
No, no sound when in the enclosure.

So do I just unscrew the PCB from the drive take a photo of it and post it on here for you?
Edit: I'm having lots of trouble trying to unscrew these tiny screws

Those are probably Torx screws. You may need a Torx 6 screwdriver.

As for photos, you could upload them to a file sharing site.
