Help needed for my WDBACY5000ABL-00 external drive please

I store all my family photos on my external harddrive but can not access them! The light on the WD is on and appears to be working but the WD does not appear in my laptop's list of drives....

As lonewolf7 says, also can you get any other computer to recognize the drive. If the drive shows up anywhere, you might be able to salvage files using the free program RECUVA or another file recovery application.

If you do get access, backup anything valuable to somewhere other than a USB drive, which is probably the single most unreliable form of backup ever made.
