I had a previous problem here - (http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1791333/dual-boot-dilemma-horror.html) and someone suggested me to try and do the fixboot thing from either windows 7 or windows 8 since windows 7 is important to me I tried running the Windows 7 recovery console and once I did a scanos from the command prompt I got 0 Windows Installations found. Please help me what must I do, I can provide more details if something is unclear.

Did you read my earlier thread, that is where my original problem was written. I did fixboot from Windows XP recovery cd and now I can at least boot into my Windows xp. Everytime I turn on the computer it says 'INVALID BOOT.INI BOOTING FROM C:/ WINDOWS'

Now my main question is my Windows 7 is installed in partition named J:/ I tried using Windows 7 recovery console's startup repair about 4 times and I also tried using bootrec.exe /fixboot and bootrec.exe /fixmbr and when I did bootrec.exe /scanos it returned with the following 'Scanning for Windows Installations - 0 Windows Installations found' so what must I do.? Will doing the above step help me or will it mess up.?

Will definitely try it - Like I said before I am not an expert in these things so sorry If I ask a foolish question. The question I want to ask is, If I follow the steps from the link you have provided - I will only have the option of booting into Windows XP like I am able to do now - What is the use of doing this thing other than fixing my invalid boot.ini problem. My main problem is I need to get access to my Windows 7 anyhow.

Sorry for all the questions, I only try to know everything so that I remember should anything happen again in the future. Well in the link you provided - I will be using the XP recovery console, and from somewhere else I came to know XP being an older OS won't be able to detect newer OS like Windows Vista, 7 and 8. Is that the case or will it be able to detect all my windows installations.?
