I am a buying a new laptop and i am considering buying one that does not have a built in dvd drive. However i have plenty of games i want to install. Can i do this via an external drive, dvd or blu-ray?
Yes, as long as those games don't require the dvd/BR to be in the drive while playing, in which case you'll need the dive attached while playing.
(edit:spelling) *drive
But most games require the disc to be in the drive while playing, right?
I would say most old games yes, as a form of copy protection. These days with online distribution and DRM you don't see it as much. I suppose it depends on what games you are playing.

What machines are you looking at? Typically if its compact enough to omit an optical drive it's not likely to have much in the way of gaming horsepower anyhow. There are some exceptions of course.
