I am looking to upgrade and get a new graphics card for my laptop as I would like to continue playing new games more easily with higher res such as rome 2 and PA which have both high demand for graphics.

The specifications for my laptop are; (Toshiba Satellite P850-31L)

3rd Gen Intel i7-3630QM
1TB Hard Disc
8GB Ram
GeForce GT 640M GPU

I have asked around and I have been told that I only really need to upgrade my GPU at the moment and the best cards recommended for my laptop would be ATI Radeon HD 5870, GeForce GTX 295, AMD Radeon HD 7850 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570.

The first question I would ask is maybe a stupid one but are all graphics cards the same size and how would I know if my laptop will have enough room to fit these inside it?
Are these good cards to upgrade to?

Grateful for any advice given.

^I do not know who gave you that info but your laptop does not have a upgradable GPU. The only thing you can do is buy a new laptop with better GPU support. There are some very high end laptops that can swap out the GPU's but not very many and the cost is very high.
