windows 2000 missing or corrupted file \winnt\system32\config\system

does anybody know how to fix this, i have tried with original windows cd but after C:\ i don't know what to do.

    Your registry is corrupt. You would need a bootable cd such as hirens boot disk. You would need to boot from it into some kind of file manager. replace c:\winnt\system32\config\system with the file c:\winnt\system32 i believe it is in a folder call repair...system.bak. rename it to sytem and overwrite the original file. A tough fix and you would lose all of you hardware setting and would need to reinstall. Have you tried F8 on boot and selected last known good?
