I bought used radeon XFX 4870x2, seller told it had driver problems lately but swore it was working with previous drivers! First testing convinced me that second gpu is dead (any 3d fullscreen would crash), but then I managed to get it started (playing with bios in rbe, mainly underclocking memory).
Long story short, now I can run whole basic 3dmark06 (at start it would bsod with first frame), MSI kombustor test 1080p preset (but not Furmark, crash on start), and it managed to run first gpu test in 3dmark vantage but crash when try to launch second test (maybe there is the answer)!!!
Everything is ok, no artifacts, no overheating and than boom, blue screen, driver stopped etc...
GPU-Z only onced showed in log strange values on crash, core clock of 200 and mem clock 36578... power-play values for overheat i presume but with weird mem clocks!
My spec:
Asus P5E (rampage bios), C2Q Q6600 (passive), 4GB 1066 ram, 600w TT Thugpower, no overclock!
Any help appreciated!
I forget to add, audio HDMI not working either, say not plugged in and I have asus dvi to hdmi so its may be linked
