Internet Explorer/Keeps Deleting All History

Ever since I freshly installed Windows8 (with all updates) my browser - Internet Explorer - keeps fully removing all history: temp int files, passwords, log-ins, browsing history, cookies etc...

For some reason, every now and then, every start-up or once in a few boots, I open Internet Explorer (through the desktop view) and find out my entire browser history is gone, no "recent pages" can be found.
What's most frustrating is the websites: Facebook, Gamespot, Ign, Tom's Hardware etc - all totally forget me, and I have to retype Username, Email and Password every time.

Heck this happened to me 4 times already in the span of one hour! PLEASE HELP !!

Where is this specific setting?

In Internet Explorer , in the tools / internet options /browsing history there is a settings button and when you push that button a window pops up and at the top there is a History tab. That history tab will allow you to select the number of days to keep pages in the history , there is also another tab for caches to be allowed. You can check this out to see if the settings are normal.

There are also other options that you can check out under the tools.

disk space to use is about 500 mb (it was 250 on default), history is set to 20, notify me when... 10 mb.

These are basically default settings, and I had no problems such as this with my previous install of Windows 7. This issue is strange, today I went to Facebook, and found that it forgot me again, I had to put user and pass..

Sleep is already on never, so is "turn of hard disks".
Days are at default set to 20, disk data was 250 - I raised it to 500.

I had my facebook name and pass forgotten twice today, seems like windows/explorer won't save my log-in detail or forget them very often.

The issue persists - on every startup, once in a few hours, and mainly after powering on the PC after a long time of in-activity: the browser simply loses all log-in info (user+pass), and I have to retype it.
Facebook for instance, got deleted like this 3 times to me yesterday night, after that it worked well for a while, this morning, I turn on the pc, and used "recent pages" to open facebook, and there it was all gone.
Also happened to me with Tom's Hardware, and IGN website.

What the hell? is this a browser issue, or a windows issue?? is the a way to reset or re-install Internet Explorer?
Also, according to this helpful guide, I made some tweaks in windows, supposedly to improve SSD performance, including turning off -Windows Search, disabling Prefetch and SuperFetch, and turning off all pagefile - meaning setting pagefile to 0. Could this be a part of the problem?

Well, I use the same guide for SSDs and apart from the sleep issues all is well. Have you run SFC?
Winkey plus 'X'
Choose Command Prompt (Admin)
Type sfc /scannow then Enter

What do you mean sleep issues? My problem with explorer has nothing to do with sleep.
And are you using everything on the guide?

More importantly, what's this SFC scan all about ? I ran it now, took few minutes and the results were simply: "windows resource protection did not find any integrity violation". Is that ok?
(and how do I do 'whinky plus x'?)

My machine 'forgets' similar things to yours if I let it sleep. I use everything on the Guide.

System File Checker
As Ie is integral to Windows it was worth running SFC to see if you had any errors/corrupt files.
'Winkey' or Windows Key, hold down and press 'X' for list of useful links to Control Panel, CMD prompt etcetera.
Are you launching Ie from Desktop/Taskbar or from Start Screen? The Start Screen version is different, can't say I like it. Appears there is no way to uninstall then re-install Ie so rather than Refresh/Reset Windows perhaps you can improve your system by trying the developer version of Ie 11?

A) Btw, on the SSD tweak guide, when I unchecked "allow files on this drive to have content indexed..." on my drive, Windows asked me if I want to include on the main folder, or on subfolder and files as well - I chose the latter. Is that ok ?

B) I tried RESETING IE but the problem persists. It worked great for almost a day, but this morning, when I turned on my PC, and windows loaded up, I checked and again:
Facebook, Tom's Hardware, Gmail, IGN - all of those had "forgotten" me, there was a blank user&pass, and I had to log-in all over again.
This is incredibly frustrating, can anyone please help me fix this!!!???

[EDIT: I consider going for a Clean Install of Windows, although I wonder if Refresh would work better for performance? how does refresh works btw? do you need to uninstall all games/re-install them later?]

A). Subfolders and files, and 'Ignore all', takes a while...
Refresh removes any additional software you've installed. (Leaves you a list on the Desktop) Reset will require Drivers etc. to be re-installed, i.e. just like a 'clean' install of Windows.(although if you reset whilst connected to the 'net, Windows 8 will find most of them for you). Best try Refresh 1st, slightly less hassle!

Dude this is getting ridiculous!!!
I restarted my PC again, turned it on- and again!! all history gone. I open my IE, and went to recent pages in the tabs area, I clicked on facebook, on tom's hardware etc - and found that again I need to log-in, even though I strictly asked Facebook (for instance) to "keep me logged in".

can it be CCleaner? I use that software, but I have been using it a lot in Win7 with no issue. I did uncheck all of the boxes under Internet Explorer, but perhaps IE's data is saved on Windows 8 somehow? than when I clean Win8 I also clean IE??. I doubt it somewhat, since I think it happened to me many times without using CCleaner before.

OK, it is almost most definitely the CCleaner!! - I suspect Win8 has "ties" to IE10, therefore even though I unchecked any checkbox for IE during the cleanup, some temp files, or win explorer files or something - when cleaned with CCleaner - they remove my browser history as well.

Can you recommend me a good cleaner software? or better yet - recommend how to set CCleaner so it WON'T remove my browser history on every use?
Thanks

Edit: hey @dodger46 on the ssd guide, when you disable superfetch, it didn't automatically removed the superfetch entry from Regedit. So like Prefetch in the registery, I set both from 3 to 0.. is that ok/safe?

Can't say I bother with Ccleaner, as long as I have 10GB+ free on 'C' I leave alone. I use Windirstat occasionally to see where I can make savings.
Setting value = 0 is correct to disable pre/super fetch...

Hey man, huge thanks for being so helpful!
One more thing, on the SSD tweak, I don't know about turning off system protection (windows restore) - sure I use ssd, and have little spare room, but at least on my Win7 install, system restore and creating points, proved helpful. What do you think?

Guess it doesn't use up that much space, personally I prefer to create a regular System Image in case of emergencies, I have an external HDD permanently connected and just create a new one once a month, easy enough to recover.

I will leave Restore at Off atm..
Do external HDDs work on USB? I never had one.. Also do they cost more than a good HDD (say 1-3 TB)? are they even good for applications and games to work on them?

I only have a single drive installed at this rig atm. I simply wanted to have a 100% SSD system, including games on SSD. It is a 256 GB Crucial M4 (although in my Computer and when I installed windows it says: 238gb for some reason). I consider buying a good hard-disk perhaps.

Once again, thanks. I haven't used CCleaner for a long while, and it seemed to solve the issue. I might use it again, but turn off many options until I find what's causing this.
