I just bought this card : http://ncix.com/products/?sku=67547&vpn=GV-R797OC-3GD&manufacture=Gigabyte&promoid=1282

my rig is :

Case : Antec P180B (http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=674)
Motherboard : GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3P LGA 1155
Processor : Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz
Hard drive : Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB
Power supply : CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX850 V2 850W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply
Memory : CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Im not the best computer guy but I plugged my amd card but it seems to be faulty I don't
know everytime I play games that the card is supposed to run smoothly its always the same, it plays smooth and nice and after a while it crashes with at least three types of crash : Crash to desktop with an error message, crash with fixed image of the game with the sound repeating itself like a saw over time and the most rare is the blackscreen and the need to hard reboot.. I don't really know what could cause that since I have a pretty big case but a lot of wires are in the way of the third fan of the card, the one closer to the end of the card where theres no pcie connectors anymore.
I don't really know what I can do to check if there is problems due to heating and my case is a mid tower but a pretty big one it has a big fan on top of it and one in the bottom and another one in the back, all 12cm.

Olivier

I hope you will be able to help me a little bit

Thats what I have been thinking but I don't know what this whole "RMA" thing is it never happened to me to have a faulty piece, I sent a message to NCIX regarding this situation but I have to allow 1 to 2 business days to received and answer from them.

I can,

Your card is likely not faulty! The same hard crashes happened with my 7970 Ghz (Sapphire) where it would blackscreen every time forcing me to hard reboot. I would bet anything that you're using the stock HDMI cable or an adapter that came with your graphics card right? This is the cause, switch to a GOLD PLATED HDMI or DVI (or anything gold plated really) and the problem should no longer persist.

Im using a DVI cable I got with a gtx 550 TI (my last card) and like I said there is not only crashes to blackscreen needing a hard reboot, this is the most rare of the crashing I get, the most I get is the crash that the game just freeze with the sound replaying over and over again. (like if I was shooting in the game its the sound of the gun replaying)

Are all DVI cables gold plated ?

Yes I had the same issues as you as far as crashing with music going, and crashing to black, mine mostly the latter, I'm not sure, just look in the specifications. But make sure you get a gold plated one and everything should be fine.

Are you sure it could make a difference ? I don't see how it could keep my computer from crashing/freezing.

Good luck, again make 100% sure it's gold plated DVI or HDMI or a mix of both. Also make sure you have the latest driver updates via CCC. Run it at default clock speeds.

the card is bad. the heatsink on the cooler was probable dislodged during shipping or was never mounted correctly to begin with. aside from heat, the only other thing it could be is that you got a faulty chip. sorry. get that RMA going.

everything is made in sweat shops with nearly 0 quality control, so things like this happen. i bought a whole bunch of parts for computer builds this year. so far got 2 bad boards (asus and msi) and one bad GPU (asus), 6 sticks of bad ram (all corsair). moral of the story, don't be surprised if you think you may have gotten a lemon.

Yeah its only my second time buying computer parts so I didn't experience that before, I already messaged NCIX but just to ask what could be wrong with my card, should I RMA it right now or wait until they answer ?

retailers usually don't provide tech support. but i have never shopped with NCIX. if you are within their return/exchange period, then just start the RMA process now. otherwise contact the manufacturer.
