My computer would initially turn on and off by itself back in August. Then, following an idea from a friend, I looked for and found some dust attached to the power button-supply connection inside. The turning on and off by itself stopped for about a week. Then, it turned on by itself again while I was sleeping, waking me up. I got up, flipped the power supply switch off, and went back to sleep. The next morning, I tried turning it on. It went on for about 5 minutes and then shut down on itself. I looked at the Dr. Debug, and found error code "04", signifying a RAM problem. I pulled out both to test them individually, and thought I found both to be nonfunctional. So I shrugged, thought I need new RAM sticks, and left for school. When I got home I found my computer on by itself again, in sleep mode. I turned it on, and was able to use for about 3 hours before it shut down on itself again. I used my parents' computer to order RAM sticks #2, which lasted again about A week with no problem. Now it shuts down on itself again, displaying Dr. Debug code "04", some times just as if I flipped the power supply switch off. So, Tom's hardware, what's making my computer turn on and shut down by itself? It is a RAM problem (which is why this thread is under memory)? Is it overheating? Is it dust? Or it it something else entirely(like a software or OS (Windows 8)issue?
