Hey guys,
I'm sorry for posting this much but I have a lot of questions.

Somebody here posted the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200.
Now, i'm ONLY interested in video, not photos. And this is a photo camera, not a video-only camera. I'd like to be high fps because I need to slow-mo footage. Another person mentioned the JVC GC-PX100 Full HD, but I'm not sure which one is better for slow motion footage HD! I wont only be doing slow motion footage of course, but mostly.

That's pretty much it! Please help!

Hi razerium - I'm the guy who recommended the FZ200. These days, the distinction between "photo" cameras and "video" cameras has pretty much disappeared. I have 5 of these "hybrid" still/video cameras from Panasonic ranging from the FZ150 all the way up to the GH3 and they all take terrific stills and video.

In fact, a Panasonic still/video hybrid camera, the GH2, was used to shoot the theatrical feature film, Upstream Color.

Here is the trailer: http://vimeo.com/57342043

And here is the full movie on Amazon Instant Video.

So I don't think you need to worry about whether Panasonic hybrid cameras are still cameras or camcorders. They're both.

As I said in my earlier post, the $899 JVC GC-PX100's slow motion footage is not HD. As camcorderinfo says in their review of this camera, "Although the PX100's promotional materials might have you believing otherwise, there are some limitations to the camcorder's high-speed shooting mode. It's important to be aware that each high-speed frame rate comes with a resolution penalty, some of which are quite severe."

At 120fps, the JVC's image has only 640X360 resolution. That compares unfavorably with the FZ200's HD 1280x720 resolution at the same frame rate.

Here's the JVC at 120fps and 640x360 resolution:

Here's the Panasonic FZ200 at 120fps and 1280x720 resolution (please watch at 720p):

Here's what pros are doing with this little camera and its slow motion mode:

The Panasonic FZ200 is on sale right now for $499 at Amazon.

Hope this is helpful!

Thanks! I think I'll be getting that one. On another note, do you suggestions for accessories? I have a lot of money left over, so I can get myself some nice and professional accessories. Any ideas? Tripod, maybe external mic? I don't really know anything about camera ports or anything so please help :)
EDIT:
Also, so this camera records 120fps in 720p, 60fps in 1080 and 30fps in 1080?

The FZ200 has an external mic jack, but it is a non-standard 2.5mm, so you will need a $4 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter to use it with standard mics.

If you want clean sound, I would get a $319 JuicedLink preamp and a $156 Audio Technica AT875r pro mic, $25 Campro Deluxe shock mount and $30 wind muff to replace the consumer preamps and mic built into the camera.

Since the camera has a standard cold shoe, you can mount the mic on top of the camera, as I did here with my similar FZ150 and an Azden SMX-10 mic:

If you want really clean sound, you'll need to get the mic off the camera and closer to the talent with an inexpensive boom like this $99 floor boom from On Stage and some extra pro XLR cable.

For handheld work, I use a pistol grip, similar to this $18.25 grip from Photography and Cinema.

If you plan to shoot handheld for long periods of time, you may want a shoulder rig instead of just a pistol grip. The best value for money is the $260 Photography & Cinema shoulder rig, which can be reconfigured as a smaller, less obtrusive rig like this:

If you plan to shoot on a tripod, I recommend a fluid head tripod that is made for video. The best value for money fluid head and tripod is this $125 Fancier crutch-style tripod with a 75mm professional "bowl". This is a rebranded version of the $140 Ravelli AVTP Professional that I use.

I use a Ravelli dolly for camera motion, but sometimes it's a challenge to find a smooth surface to roll it on for dolly shots.

This $99 Kamerar slider is a good value for money, but I haven't bought one yet.

The filmmaker appears to use a slider in the first shot of this amazing FZ200 slow motion film:

Yes, the NTSC model records 28mbps AVCHD 1080/60p and 20mbps MP4 1080/30p as well as 720/120p.

Again, hope this is helpful!

I would like to first point out tht the JVC GC-PX100 IS FULL 1080p HD capable, though it does go down in resolution a bit, but not dramatically! I would also like to say that for your specifications of what you need in a camera the JVC GC-PX100 seems to be the clear winner here. While the FZ200 captures at variable frame rates up to 120fps (NTSC) and 100fps (PAL); The JVC GC-PX100 will capture variable frame rates of video at 120fps - 600fps! The JVC is known for it's High speed capturing which in return gives you a higher frame rate than the FZ200. For your best choice I would suggest on picking up The JVC GC-PX100 *Full HD.
My information is creditable and you can review it straight from the manufacturer's official website.

Hi razerium - if you agree that the GC-PX100's 640x360 resolution at 120fps is going down in resolution "a bit", you may want to rent the camera from LensRentals for $81 + tax for 3 days (postage included) and see for yourself before you make your final decision: https://www.lensrentals.com/rent/video/cameras/jvc/jvc-...

Good luck,

Hey guys, I just really need to have it slow motion in HD. However with the looks of the JVC, it's tempting. It looks AMAZING

I'm going to be making YouTube videos, and 720p is pretty much a necessity for good videos... So I think the Lumiz fz200 is the winner

Congrats on your decision - please post links to your videos after you get your FZ200 (still on sale for $499 last time I checked) - it would be great to see your results!
