I'll build a Test Bed on legs something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811353001&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=6146836&SID=1uz33m24kqbvm

But I wonder what material to use.

A metal sheet, aluminum, steel? like an actual board in a computer, with standoffs of course?

How about a wooden board - would that work? Cut down on static probs? Cut down on chance of shorts?

What about Perspex? Looks good. Any good?

What about other plastics?

What about rubber sheet - cover something with rubber sheet? Could I then lay the board on the sheet not needing to fuss with standoffs?

And could I use underpowered old PSU's for this basic testing seeing there won't be numerous HDD's or anything? Or must I dedicate an expensive modern PSU?

And are there any other things I should take into consideration before I start?

Solution
Never use plastic major static danger! Wood is good, requires work though, though there are I won't say cases but holders/stands that are designed to swap parts in and out with ease. Just using a mobo on stands can be risky danger of cracking the mobo over time or if you are not careful Just make sure you have sufficient air flow and do not use and open air cases/stands whatever in humid environments. The rubber mat might be good or an anti-static mat through amazon often they come with built in anti-static wristbands. As for PSU depends will you be running 3 or 4 way SLI Crossfire setups high end CPU's that takes up power even if you only have a 256 GB HDD and 8Gb of RAM
