Is 60 degrees for the VRM at full load too hot?

I recently added 4 fans to my case to get some actual airflow going through, and temperatures have dropped noticeably, but one temperature in particular continues to stand out. In speedfan, temp2 which I have determined is the VRM (it lowers considerably when blowing compressed air onto the VRM) will rise to upwards of 60 degrees under prime95 while temp1 which I assume is the CPU temperature (it is the next highest) will rise to upwards of 45 degrees under prime95. If my assumption that the temp1 is the CPU temperature is correct, that would be great, but I'm wondering if 60 degrees for the VRM is too hot?

Not at all. The VRMs are rated to temperatures well over 100 degrees. 60 degrees under load is actually quite good

Well I guess it will be ok if you all say so. It's just that many were complaining about how my budget motherboard didn't have heatsinks on the VRM and some even reported the VRM burning. :p

I'm just curious... Right now my CPU is at stock but what if I want to overclock. A few people said that would be quite a bad idea with my motherboard...

Some budget boards are okay, but others should only ever be used as target practice. Many high quality motherboards do not have heat sinks on the VRMs though, so that's not usually a factor.

I have been running the same board with an r9-290 (which gets very hot), and an overclocked fx-6300(4.5ghz). My vrms get up to 65C under load and I have never had any issues. Been running the setup for over two years without issue. I too have added some case fans to the front and sides for optimal air-flow.

Like everyone else said, you will be fine.
