Gtx 760 vs Radeon 7950 for MMO gaming

Hello all.

I am on the bend about which card to pick. I have tried researching benchmarks but very little of them do any mmo testing. I imagine it is because the identical environments are hard to obtain but i would guess running the same raid with the same people would be pretty consistent.

So here is my dilemma, since the two cards are pretty much close in price range, but i am curious as to how they would perform in terms of mmo's. Here i am talking about WoW, Rift, GW2 and the upcoming TESO, Wildstar, and so on. I play the occasional single player as well but MMO's are my main thing.

There is a whole lot of debate about gpu vs cpu for mmo's as well so this would be my setup.

i5 3570k
ASRock Z77 Extreme3
8gb 1600 Gskill ripjawsx 8-8-8-24
CX600M 600w PSU

And of course one of the GPU's.

Any clues as to which one would perform better?

What are you talking about dude. They have the same performance. The 760 may beat it by a tiny bit at stock, but the 7950 overclocks better.

You linked the 7850, he was asking about the 7950. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-7950-vs-GeForce-GTX-760

And as far as MMOs go. I can't say for sure. I think Nvidia gets more FPS in WoW than AMD. But I'm not sure about other MMO's. I am currently playing Star Wars the old republic and it just runs like crap for most people, no matter what PC they have.

Hence my dilemma... Price is about the same, for the models im looking at, to be more specific:

Asus 7950 : http://www.ncix.ca/products/?affiliateid=7474144&sku=81960&vpn=HD7950-DC2-3GD5-V2&manufacture=ASUS&promoid=1307
Zotac Amp! 760: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_1200_557_559&item_id=062719

I am a bit of a nvidia fanboy i guess, but thats mainly because i havent had awesome experience with radeon's in the past but they seem to have stepped up the game lately.

The radeon has the OC option and higher memory size and bandwidth, but the 760 is a bit better according to most benchmarks, less spiky fps for most games which were all made with single player in mind >.< So would the edge go to the radeon because of the mass of people/textures it needs to process in mmos or not...

If you like Nvidia stick with it. I think Asus> Zotac though. I have a Sapphire Flex 7950X2. The 760 also overclocks very well but I think the 7950 overclocks a little better, but that also depends on your luck. I've looked at lots of benchmarks and the 760 gets more fps in some games and 7950 gets more fps in others. According to the reviews, overall, the 760 is a little faster at stock but it's not much at all.

I've had Radeon in my PC for the last few years and have not really had any problems with them. I do want to try Nvidia though. I bought my first 7950 in June before the release of the 700 series. I hate waiting for these things but if the 760 was out at the time I probably would have gotten it since it would have been 50 bucks cheaper.

I guess the only thing left to consider is the price, will have to wait and see a week or two if any of the cards gets a nice promo discount or something and just go for it.

Edit:
Do you guys think the radeon prices might drop a bit with the new releases this fall?

Yea i saw that one on the september bang for the buck article and i was psyched to see it but the thing is, im in Canada, and the same model on newegg.ca one is 300+ might have to get a friend to buy it and send it if the price sticks.

Ah that sucks. That asus one was always one of the more expensive ones along with the Sapphire Vapor-X and the Flex that I got. Recently, the Asus was $269, just today it shot up to $340. If your friend can do that for you though, it's probably the best bang for buck. The 760 is only 30 bucks more though and it's new so.
