temp mismatch between bios and core temp

So when I was in my BIOS, bumping my 4670k to 4Ghz, I noticed that it was reporting a CPU temp of 55C, which seemed crazy high for idle, especially since Core Temp had been reporting 38C at idle with no OC. At the same time, it said my case fans were all running at around 300rpm...which seems way low (granted, they're 230mm fans, so 900 is "high" speed for them). So I locked in the OC and booted...and Core Temp is showing 38C, a 4 degree jump at idle for a 600Mhz OC...that seems reasonable, but I'm still a little worried about what gigabyte was telling me!

/edit/

I think the 38C from core temp is accurate...the build is 24 hours old, I vaguely recall that it takes a while for the temp to settle down below 30 on a new build.

Turns out they're both right. The CPU is not idling when I'm inside the BIOS screwing around (but working hard enoughto produce 55? Surprised me!)

I ran OCCT for 20 minutes with the 4.0 OC, and the max temp on the hottest core was 85, the lowest max was 77. I guess I'll call that good enough, it's a 17% OC, and Haswell runs hot, I don't want to shorten the life of the chip, an average of 80C at 100% load is right about where I want it. I'm still a little pissed at 38C for an idle temp, though!
