Hi, I am planning on getting a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD5H motherboard with a 4771 processor, 16 GB ram, using on board graphics and a cooler master storm trooper case. I like this mb because it has a lot of USB and SATA ports as well as most likely being a good option for an eventual hackintosh installation. I know there are more quiet cases but I havent found any that have an external HDD dock and have as much space for 3.5 inch drives as the storm trooper. I use a lot of drives and I swap them out a lot. The cpu cooler I am thinking of using is the NH-D14. I am replacing my early 2008 mac pro which runs pretty much silent. I want the new pc to be similar. I want to place two 140mm noctua ULN fans in the top and one in the back. replace the front fans with 2 120mm noctua ULN fans and put one 120mm Noctua ULN fan in the floor. The power supply will be a Corsair RM750.

I want to know if encircling the case with only noctua ULN fans will provide adequate airflow and silence to match the mac pro. I have no intention of overclocking. The machine is for lightroom, photoshop and some premier work. I don't play video games. If you can suggest a more suitable case, I would appreciate that too.

What do you think?

What do I think. Too much fans. Noctua has new version.

Seems like you like to play with fans. So this is good case to do just that.
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-air540
Fractal R4 is good silent case.

I think Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H and Asus Z87-PLUS do have 8 sata 6GB/s ports.
UD5H do have 10

RM 750 is maybe good. But there is cheaper good option now.
Im not sure why do you want 750w psu? That can power up SLI video cards.
You are fine with 450-550w psu. And this means good psu like seasonic ,rosewill or corsair. Now remember that most corsair psu are made by seasonic.
Rosewill is new really good and reliable psu. Capstone and tachyon are really good.
Read this. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Rosewill-CAPSTONE-550M-Power-Supply-Review/1584

Price is good so http://pcpartpicker.com/part/rosewill-power-supply-capstone550m

Corsair sells docks to fit more HDD in any system / case.

Silverstone do have 5 hot swap HDD place.

10 HDD / SSD can be fitted to Rosewill blackhawk ultra and Enermax Fullmo GT
And they do have on case HDD dock

I think one cheaper case from rosewill do have that too.
Yes this do have Top mounted SATA HDD dock

Corsair 800/900D is maybe good case for you.
Or that air 540 + some HDD docks. They have told that they will sell more corsair 900D docks if you need. But I have not seen any. Best ask from corsair.

Thanks Outlander. The storm trooper case apparently has a built in 6 step fan speed control. so I could use that although I would prefer if the bios controlled the fan speed automatically.

AxlFone
Thanks for such a detailed response.

Believe me! I have no special enthusiasm for fans! lol I just understood from my internet research that more fans running slower provides a better sound profile. Like I said, my goal is to match the Mac pro. As long as I do that, I'll be happy.

I will take a look at that cpu fan. Thanks!

I have lots of USB peripherals. I did look at the UD3H and felt that for me, but felt that the UD5H suited me better.

I decided on the 750 because it was under 20 Eur price difference. Rosewill is not available in The Netherlands so that case and power supply are not possible. The 900D case was my second choice! The only reason I went for the Storm Trooper was the fan controls and the HUGE price difference. In terms of features, they both covered my needs but here the Corsair is €300 and the Storm Trooper is €130 and I couldn't see where all that price difference was going. If the corsair fans are so much better that I wouldn't need to replace them with Noctua, then maybe that would work...Does anyone know how silent that corsair 900D built in fans are?

If you can't get Rosewill from Nedherlands I can send one for you.
And look from Germany too. They have cheaper parts. I order from German all the time parts. From mindfactory and hw wersand. Shipping to me is only 30 so it is still bigsave for me.

Thanks a lot for the offer to source it for me, but in case of warranty issues, I would rather source stuff that has a Netherlands distributor and local service/replacement. Those case fans look very good! They are almost half the price of the noctua and they seem to have a good reputation and they are available here. And the noctua fans are so freakin UGLY. Also I just found out about some cooler master case fans that are getting very good results at low speeds and they are even cheaper called blade master but they don't make 140m :(

I may hold off the case fan decisions until I actually see how loud the system is running stock fans at different speeds.

By the way, the RM750 here is cheaper than the Super Flower 700 and its only €12 more expensive than the one from mindfactory.

I do agree to that warranty issue. But what can go wrong with case?
Not much. Delivery can broke it. I did order my Fulltower from mindfactory and did come home in good shape. And I live in Finland. We order there all the time stuff.
If comes warranty issue. Then just ask RMA note and free delivery to store.
It is only waiting time bit longer. Mail deliveru takes about 3-4 days. But parts are much cheaper.

Ive just discovered what looks like an amazing case. Now I'm really unsure - Corsair 900D, Thermaltake S71, Cooler Master Storm Trooper, or Phanteks Enthoo Primo. The thermaltake and the cooler master are the cheapest at about €125, the Phanteks is €230 and the 900D is €300. I have to decide because I am ordering everything tomorrow (well, technically, today) I'm not getting any fans for now, so the only decision left is the case.

http://phanteks.com/Enthoo-Primo.html

Really, they give you free delivery for returns? Thats really good! I will keep them in mind. When I've had to return stuff to amazon.de or amazon.uk, I always got my ass kicked on shipping fees.

Phantex looks really good Id take that or Corsair 900D for future water cooling use.
And maybe you get more HDD bays from corsair in future. Send just mail and ask.
Love this case. It looks great!

This is cheap new case.

Just ATX size but still enough room inside.
These have pre installed sound damppening material.

Look them too.
