I'm currently running on Vista, and I have 2 drivers with problems.

If I install Windows 7, which I am considering a long time ago, what happens to the drivers, are they unninstalled and then Windows 7 ones are installed?

So if I install Windows 7 do I correct my 2 drivers with problems?

Hi

Microsoft has software which checks both driver & other software compatibility & produces a full report.

This will tell you if Windows 7 has all the drivers it needs on the disk

You should also check the motherboard manufacturers web site for chipset drivers

You did not say if 32 bit or 64 bit windows Vista &7

I would avoid trying to use the upgrade in place installation option of windows 7.
If you are changing from 32 bit to 64 bit, then a clean install is required regardless.
Buy the windows 7 upgrade package. It costs about the same as oem, but is considered as retail which means that it can be moved in the future to a different motherboard. The package comes with both 32 and 64 bit dvd's.
Windows 7 will come with sufficient drivers to get you started. The cd that comes with you motherboard will have other drivers. In particular the lan chip drivers which gets you onto the internet.

Thanks
My laptop is vista 32 bit, so I believe I have to upgrade to 64 bit,

What are these Microsoft programs that give me a full report on the drivers ?

And I still don't understand what happens to the vista drivers,
-Are they uninstalled and new Win7 are instaled?
-Are they just 'upgraded' to Win7 drivers?

I have a windows vista 32 bit, but can't I just install win 7 32 bit ?
And what do you mean by a clean Install?

The upgrade package will include both 32 and 64 bit versions.
If you have more than 4gb of ram, you will want a 64 bit os to access the extra, but it is not essential.

Yes, you can install w7 32 bit. I have done so with the express purpose of being able to run civ2.42, a 16 bit program.
You can try the 32 bit upgrade install, but if your current os is having issues, I would not want to perpetuate them.

A clean install erases all the current hard drive and starts anew.
Before a clean install, find and download the laptop drivers to a usb drive.
Also protect and save anything you need. You will need to reinstall your apps.
After windows loads, you can then easily install the needed drivers.

I might suggest that this would be an opportune time to change to a SSD. It will absolutely transform the performance of your laptop.
I have done this on all my laptops with great results.
If you should have any problems, your original hard drive will be unchanged.
If you buy a SSD large enough to hold your current data, you could clone the hard drive to the ssd, and then try the upgrade in place option.

Thanks for the information and thanks for your time.
Storage is not a problem to change to w7
Also the I don't think I need to download and save the drivers because I did the upgrade once and it wasnt needed.

My video drivers have problems (in the device manager there are 2 yellow triangles with exclamation mark on the video drivers)

What I want to know is:
If I upgrade the system to windows 7, will the drivers still be with problems or are they going to be fine?
