I've been using multiple displays for a while with my desktop and I am now trying to do the same with my laptop. My graphics card is a 540m. I can get both monitors to work and the screen is extended properly but the screens are different resolutions and both of them are trying to display 1920x1080 which leads to the edges of the screen being cut off on one monitor. I tried changing the resolution individually on nvidia control panel but I can only get it to register the laptop main display, when I check the box next to the other monitor it appears and I can set the position but as soon as I apply it, it unchecks the box and removes it from the settings, this means I cant set the resolution. Anyone had this issue?

The problem with that is that the resolution of my second monitor isn't available as an option and nvidia control panel has more options. When I set it through graphics properties, either the edges are cut off or there are black spaces around the edge of the screen.

In the control panel under the display section, go down to "Adjust Desktop Size And Position" and from there you should be able to Resize your resolution to fit your screen.
