I done a windows update a few days ago and ever since the wifi has completely stopped working. The updates were a bunch of definition updates, microsoft office updates, and .net framework update. If anyone wants to know exactly what updates they were just ask. After the update my adapter have been stuck on limited access and won't connect to the router. My router is a belkin np600. I use two wifi adapters on my pc; A D-Link DWA-556 and an Edimax usb adapter(RT73 I think). Both are stuck on limited access. The router still connects to the dozens of other laptops, computers and smartphones in this house fine so it's only my pc that won't connect. Also the router can't find my pc when I do a scan for devices. My pc has some remote control server software for my phone and I also can't connect my phone the my pc anymore using that app. It's like I don't have an ip address anymore. I have tried the most obvious things like disabling/enabling the adapters, making my pc forget my home network settings and trying to connect again and updating the router's firmware but nothing works. One of the first things I tried to do was a system restore but it kept failing which led me to suspect the possibility of a virus but I have done a full scan using malwarebytes and nothing came up(I am currently doing another full scan with kaspersky). I tried doing ipconfig/all in command prompt and heres what came up:

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name: Ross-PC
Primary DNS Suffix: (Blank)
Node Type: Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled: No
WINS Proxy Enabled: No

Tunnel adapter isatap.{5EAC025D-B365-47B1-8F6F-CAE2CBCC2F96}:

Media State: Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix: (Blank)
Description: Microsoft ISATAP Adapter
Physical Address: 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
DHCP Enabled: No
Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes

Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 23:

Media State: Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix: (Blank)
Description: Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface
Physical Address: 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
DHCP Enabled: No
Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's all that shows up. Nothing comes up saying my ip address and nothing to do with my wifi adapters. Does anyone have any ideas because I have ran out of things to try?

You need to enable DHCP to be automatically assigned an IP address, or are you using static IP's for a reason? If the manual IP settings are incorrect you will not be able to connect, best thing to do is enable DHCP in the network adapter IP settings.

DHCP is enabled in my router's settings. I was not using static IP's. DHCP disabled only show in my computer's ipconfig/all for the LAN. Possibly because I haven't connected the LAN on this computer but I don't know. Also my adapters DO show up in device mananger and network and sharing center(otherwise I wouldn't have a limited access message) but they don't show up in ipconfig/all.

Go into network and sharing centre, then network adapters. Click properties of each adapter and go into the tcp/ip settings sections, make sure DHCP is enabled in there

Thanks for replying. I checked if dhcp is enabled in the adapter settings and it is. I also tried manually entering some settings in the adapter but it still got limited connectivity and I tried reinstalling the usb adapter but it didn't work. Kaspersky finished it's full scan and nothing came back. Also rather oddly today when I booted up the computer windows update said it had a new update available. I thought that was weird since I was disconnected from the Internet. The update was a definition update for Windows defender - KB915597. A quick Google of 'kb915597' returned me some pretty interesting results. Seems I'm not the only one with this problem. Looks like Microsoft screwed up somehow.

I just checked my windows update history to see which updates have failed and sure enough the first on the list of failed updates was KB915597. At least now I know what the problem is and now I can start making progress fixing it.

How did you go about fixing the problem?

I can now 100% confirm KB915597 was the cause of the problem but unfortunately I never fixed the it no matter what I tried. I was planning on getting an ssd around the time, which I did so now I have a new windows installation and it doesn't matter anymore.

Tip: Never use windows defender and disable the program so you don't get updates for it. Besides, Windows defender is obsolete if you use any other anti virus software.

If you see "Limited Access" in wireless: Make sure Network Location Awareness service is running. It should be set to Automatic and the service is started. To get to services, this pull up a Run box (Windows Key + R), type services.msc, press enter. Find the service, double-click it. Choose Automatic, then Apply, then Start, click OK.
