Hey guys,
My computer won't POST after a RAM upgrade. The ASUS M3A78-CM board has 4 DDR2 slots, and I've previously only used 2 (2x2GB Corsair DDR2-800). I recently got 2x1GB Kingston DDR2-667 (brand-new sealed-in-box), and decided to make use of the other 2 slots.
The "SB_PWR" LED on the motherboard turns on when I plug the computer in, but I get a black screen when I try to turn the computer on. I've already tried taking out the RAM, putting each of the 4 RAM cards in 1 of the 4 slots, turning the computer on (a futile effort), switching the same RAM card in the 2nd slot, attempt to boot, and so on.
I've also tried clearing CMOS (using jumpers), taking out the battery, waiting a while, and putting it back in, and taking out the CPU, checking for any bent pins, and reinstalling it (reapplying thermal paste as well). Leaving the battery out also has no visible effect. Using 3 different power supplies doesn't seem to work either. I don't have another AM2 board or CPU to swap with.
However, if I leave the computer on (with and without RAM and battery) for about 10-15 minutes, the CPU heatsink does become a little warm.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Should I try to find a good deal on an AM2 motherboard/CPU? Or just forget about this old build?
Thanks!
